Holistic Health & Parenting Coach, Kalina Poppins INSPIRES the Denver community with Ketogenic Low Carb Living with a side of herbal medicine woman!
Recently sipped Sweet Tangerine, Positive Energy tea with Kalina "Poppins" Ross of Denver, Colorado to discuss Holistic Health and Parent Coaching. What is Holistic Health? Who do you turn to for parent coaching? How do you decide to become a parent coach? With every intention to better serve the community with her talents, this herbal medicine woman has the answers.
What inevitably inspired you to become a Holistic Health and Parent Coach? "Ultimately, my father is the reason I so wholeheartedly believe in this transition of my health but I decided to start my holistic health coach journey at first to heal myself and second became the idea of, if I had seen so much healing, including myself, how then would I be able to continue living without sharing the knowledge that had been placed right in front of me? The moment I thought of this possibility becoming real, my life in planning events was no longer enough or fulfilling the greater needs of my community so I jumped, heart first, with no idea as to how I was going to do something that is so personal to every single human.
I knew, especially with my peers, that they'd need to "see it to believe it!" Soon after this revelation I took the (what used to be) dreadful photo in my bra and underwear and claimed that day, February 17, 2016, would be the greatest step toward my health coach goals of changing the way America views and treats food!
The parenting coach is not quite in full action, as I know as a parent and as a super nanny, talking with parents about their children is a very sensitive conversation as many of us feel judged and inadequate when someone offering an opinion/idea/better way of doing anything regarding something so precious to them. But, we have never been given a guide to raising humans, so I do believe we need to reach out more, speak up, and discuss our patterns that may be carrying on through generations that is leading (more than ever) to children growing up lost and most of all malnourished, thanks to our government's success at dumbing us down."
How does your family play a part in your career choices? "So, here I am, about 6 months in and beginning to see the reality of the new me and my new career path! My family is a huge part of my career as we/they were the flowers from my soil that I was watering to become healthy humans and greatness in our world. Since the birth of my two children, myself and their father have strived to always feed them a healthy diet and I have made a very well know habit that eating together as a family every night was the magic that holds us together. We went from a typical American diet, when they were young and by the ages of 4 & 2 years old, we as a family had switched to a mostly organic diet. No fast food. Within months I had seen magic with my children, their father and myself, and how wonderful we felt. That was 10 years ago and last year, a shift occurred in our family because of newer knowledge of our food was learned. My kids father healed himself of many ailments, my health was feeling greater than ever and most importantly my kids were changing. Every day last year was a miracle of information. I heard so many stories of magical healing all from the way people were eating and like I said, by February of 2016, I took a vow to be the person I knew I was destined to be! My family is everything regarding my career, they support me, they live it, and now teach it. My family is your family and if I don't value them at the core, then how will I value anyone else and with that? How can I not then make it my obligation, especially as a mama, to take care of other humans and demand the love of health for you. We must change."
Many have heard of low carb, low fat, all protein, paleo, vegetarianism, veganism, pescatarianism diets. With all of these lows and isms...What is the difference with Ketogenic Low carb Living? "There are many ways of eating. Firstly, I want to support the idea that we must stop using the word diet. It has all sorts of negative feelings to most people because we've all been exhausted by all the lies media has fed us. Way of eating is my go to phrase. I support the way anyone choses to eat of course but for my personal beliefs I stand by: veganism as something I do not support, as I have run into a lot of folks who have damaged their health. I do believe there are some nutrients missing but on the same thought, I do support veganism when dealing with dis-ease but as for (one's) entire way of eating, I'm not for vegan or complete vegetarian lifestyle. The ketogenic-low carb lifestyle differs from other practices by way of eating fat. Essentially, you're changing your bodies energy source form sugar to fat which in turn magically heals many ailments and problems most of us have endured for the last 60+ years! I'm not saying this way of eating will work for everyone but I do believe it... as we all have been becoming sicker and are starting to die younger than before. Overall, my daily food intake consists of 70-80% fat, 15% protein and 5% carbohydrates and those are from natural sources only.
"What would happen if we all got off crack, I mean sugar."
How does one become a patient? client? of your holistic wellness practice? How do you see your clients? "I am in the process of developing routines and procedures regarding my health coach business so for the time being I have accepting clients in small numbers, planning for community classes and working on myself most of all, so that I may be at my best for my clients. The best way to stay up to date with upcoming events and services is through my Facebook page Kalina Poppins.
I read recently that you were certified. Can you explain to the average person why it is important to be certified or explain why you chose to become certified in this field? "I am certified as a Holistic Health Coach/ Raw Food Chef as I felt it important to learn this approach first because it specifically focused on dis-ease. My teacher in New Mexico, Paula, from Diet for Living Center, cured her breast cancer and that was important to me as my father died from a cancer. I believe wholeheartedly I could have cured (his cancer), if I had known the information I know today. My ten year goal is to help cancer patients heal themselves naturally! You do not need certification in Colorado to be a health coach but I felt it important in my personal life goals regarding education.
How do your services provide for the community? "Community is my life. Everyone around me is just as important as myself, so I try to help as many humans as possible, one at a time. My work is for the greater good and thats why I am super stoked to offer classes soon to help aid in all the dis-ease our community is facing by no fault of their own. I believe so much, (nowadays), that the way we eat is a revolutionary act in itself because our minds are so clouded, we can barely process an original thought. All this IS on purpose. I am also in search of a place to host and bring back HYGGE. Hygge is a danish word that is the ritual of enjoying life's simple pleasures. Friends. Family. Graciousness. When I hosted the first... it was my call to a huge support group where we focused on the self, our problems and a topic of discussion. A sort of therapy without a psychological need to be diagnosed and instead just be loved and heard all while coming together for a meal. It was fantastic and a ton of folks received healing and I know this is an event we must bring back to life.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In five years I hope to be established in my role fully as a successful health coach with an extension of helping children, as children are the way of the future. I hope to have a space that can provide solace and love for all those who need it and I dream of having a nightly table dinner that everyones invited to, any night!
What are you thoughts on humanity and what is happening around the globe involving race, migration, etc? "My thoughts on humanity. So big I don't even think I can formulate a response as I'm a dreamer who stays in the clouds of love so that I may be the cloud blowing around healing all the pains we've endured. Materialism killed us. Money is evil, needed, but lies to us, as money never is the entirety of our happiness. I say again that if we can not have control over the powers that be, we must do what we can individually and that to me is changing the way we eat. Our brains are starting to become clouded by sugar. Its proven. Our thoughts are dissipating and less and less matters to us and more than ever we have secluded ourselves from each other, now bothered by hellos and smiles. Food. Is the revolution. If we all stood up, ate cleaner and took back our most natural sources of food, imagine what we might do then? What would happen if we all got off crack...I mean sugar.
