An ongoing series of self exploratory & reflective pieces gathered in a Cabinet of Curiosity. Photography, costuming, sculpture and collection address a vision|versions|variations of myself. These works reflect cultural beliefs supported by historical portraiture which have been handed down by matriarchs generation after generation. I am Inspired by the human condition, multiplicity & balance as I explore identity and reflection. I pay homage to maternal skills, expressions and matriarchs through my installations.
In 2014, 247 girls were kidnapped from their classrooms in Chibok, Nigeria by the Islamic militia terrorist group Boko Haram. For over two years, Nigerian Women, girls and their children have been forced into marriage and have become unwilling weapons for the militia group. By breaking the passivity of the spectator, the mixed media installation, NUBILE, confronts the sociopolitical event attempting to gain the world’s attention on the victims of this heinous crime. An estimate of over 2,000 female Nigerians have been kidnapped since 2014.
